Presentation@Immersive X Conference: Learnings from the First 3 ½ Years of Uni Münster’s XRLab@MCM: Highlights, Lowlights, and What’s Missing to Make the Metaverse (Truly) Matter
In the midst of the pandemic’s first winter, Björn Ognibeni invited Thorsten Hennig-Thurau, marketing professor at University of Münster, to attend an X Night social gathering. Half a year later, the eXperimental Reality Lab at Uni Münster’s Marketing Center was up and running. Since then, the XRLab@MCM (https://xrlab-mcm.space) has conducted extensive scientific experiments of and in the metaverse, published influential articles, ran seminars and lectures in various virtual apps, contributed to various events in virtuality, and built two, not one virtual headquarters. In this session, Sean Keogh from headroom will look back with Thorsten and Björn and some special guests at the XRLab@MCM’s first 3 and ½ years, their greatest metaverse moments as well as their biggest disappointments, and what will have to happen to realize the metaverse's potential. At the end, attendants are invited for a very special “first look” experience.

Get down on the dancefloor and move your body to the beats delivered live by our resident DJ Illuminatty. Based in Oakland, she knows exactly how to turn a bunch of lazy avatars into one enthusiastic, twitching crowd.
Natasha Murray (aka Illuminatty) is a VR DJ known for her shows in Altspace VR, Wave XR, Sansar, Neos and Twitch. For over a year, she has been DJing with Tribe XR in Virtual Reality, bringing an eclectic mix of tech house and breakbeats from her home to real venues around the world. With a penchant for blending art and music, she designs her own stages for her performances in Wave XR, using storytelling elements to embellish her designs and DJ sets.
X-TALK - Theatre and Storytelling in VR
Christina M. Schollerer is co-host of the StoryFusion MeetUp in Berlin for innovative storytelling. In 2018, she founded the Berlin StoryDesign.Studio, where she explores and develops story worlds of all kinds - from picture books to transmedia bestseller campaigns. Since 2012, she has been teaching format development and (corporate) storytelling at universities and advising companies on the topic of brand communication.
Dr Michael Straeubig is a systems theorist, dramaturge, game designer, creative coder. As a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Plymouth, he investigated and designed playful systems. As a computer scientist with a focus on artificial intelligence, he works at the intersection of theatre, XR, games, and AI. He has taught in Plymouth, Lüneburg, and Nanjing.
